It’s Boys’ Day/Children’s Day!

May 5, 2007

koiCinco de Mayo? When you grow up in Hawaii, May 5 is Boys’ Day, although in Japan it is officially called Children’s Day.

We’ve mentioned several times before that we have a lot of opinions about Asian Americans in Young Adult literature. And since May is Asian/Pacific Heritage Month, we thought this would be a good time to discuss them. The idea had been floating around for a while, and we finally got our act together and chatted about this topic. Starting tomorrow, we’ll post parts of the transcript every day for the next week, some with additional commentary, starting with a depressingly short list of all the YA fiction titles we could think of with Asian-American protagonists.
